Another brilliant decision

Help me out here. Congress passes a law requiring passports for travel to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean and the State Department did not adequately anticipate the America citizens’ willingness to comply with that law? Did we have a choice? Sounds like the State Department has been spending too much time dealing with illegal immigrants and Paris Hilton, where complying with laws is optional.

The above was the explanation given by Maura Harty, the assistant secretary for consular affairs, for the mess created when the Department of Homeland Security decided to implement the new passport requirements in January 2007, rather than wait until June, 2009, as was their option. Another brilliant decision by the DHS.

Not to worry though. You will be allowed to sneak across our borders along with the illegal immigrants until the State Department gets around to issuing you a passport.
